The 2018 EUREKA Innovation Days Conference was held in Helsinki, Finland on the 22nd of May (www.eurekainnovationdays.org). The conference focused on ways to get open innovation working for industry partners across the entire EU, and was addressed by Richard Haagensen, VP & Head of Innovation for Landis+Gyr, and Carlos Hartel, CTO and CIO for GE Europe, and Lauri Oksanen VP of Nokia. The event hosted over 200 different EURKEA funded projects and supported a number of focused matchmaking events.

The newest EUREKA platform is in the area of advanced manufacturing, called the SMART program www.smarteureka.com. The General Assembly of the SMART program was also held at the main Eureka conference and was addressed by the group president Eduardo Beltran (Mondragon Corporation). The results for the first call to this program revealed that the average application was for €1.5-2m, had 4-5 partners across 2-3 countries, for 31 months duration. The general assembly was also addressed by Dr Andrew Lynch (Chief Innovation Officer, IMR), who is a founding Board Member for the SMART Program. Andrew outlined the Irish perspective on SMART, where over 5% of the total funding applications came from Irish partners (making Ireland the fourth largest country participant across the entire program). The Board also indicated that the next call for SMART funding will be launched in September 2018.
