On the 3rd and 4th of October, the European Commission launched its industrial innovation information days (specifically on nanotechnologies, advanced materials, biotechnology, advanced manufacturing & processing). The opening session was chaired by Peter Dröll, the Director for Industrial Technologies DG RTD, with a keynote presentation from and Robert-Jan Smits, Director General for Research & Innovation, DG RTD. The sessions focused in detail on the 2018-2020 calls for the H2020 funding program and the resultant industrial engagement opportunities. Specific workshop topics of interest to Irish Manufacturing Research partners included, Factories of the Future, Open Innovation Test Beds, Biotechnology & Medical Innovations, the Circular Economy and Energy Efficient Buildings. Andrew Lynch, Chief Innovation Officer with Irish Manufacturing Research, represented Irish manufacturing interests at a number of EFFRA driven engagements. He worked directly with Zeljko Palin, the CEO of EFFRA in aligning Irish partner interests to the EFFRA roadmap process.
