Barry is currently CEO of Irish Manufacturing Research, Irelands leading edge industrially focused research centre for advanced manufacturing. Barry qualified with an MSc from University of Dublin, Trinity College Dublin in 1996. Barry has worked in a research environment in Trinity College Dublin for 10 years before commencing work with Intel. He has worked in a number of senior engineering roles in Intel as Process Integration, Failure Analysis engineer. He has held a number of senior management roles in Failure Analysis, Process Integration, Process Control and Statistics, Yield Analysis, Quality and Reliability, Yield Q&R. Barry has also worked as New Business and Strategic Program director for Ireland Fab Operations in Intel.

Michéal Cassidy is founder and CTO of Irish Manufacturing Research since its formation in 2014. Prior to this, he has had a number of management and engineering roles in large multinationals including Philips and TDK and manufacturing start-ups and SMEs. Micheal is responsible for the strategic technical roadmap and managing diverse high performing technical teams in areas such as Knowledge Management, Energy Efficiency, Augmented Reality and IoT. He also directs company operations and has raised over €20M in public and private R&D funding.
Dr. Andrew Lynch
Chief Innovation & Network Officer
Andrew has spent 20 years in the manufacturing sector as an owner manager, consultant, senior manager and latterly researcher of SME manufacturing sites in Ireland and abroad. Andrew’s role in Irish Manufacturing Research is to encourage and facilitate industrial research projects and interactions with the Centre, as well as coordinating international activities across Europe. Andrew holds an honours degree in Biology, A first class Masters in Environmental Analytical Chemistry from University College Cork and a PhD in Engineering from the University of Limerick. Andrew chairs the National Steering Committee in Cobotics, and is the National Delegate on several manufacturing policy fora across a number of European platforms.
Dr Fergus Quilligan
Fergus is Principal Investigator for Analytics in IMR. Fergus received a PhD on the application of data processing and feature extraction to astrophysical datasets. He worked onsite with NASA and ESA before moving to Intel where he led an analytics team providing skills in root cause analysis, advanced SPC, data mining, yield modelling, predictive analytics etc. with Fergus leading the worldwide quality improvement roadmap. Since moving to IMR Fergus has worked on projects involving real time data analysis from IoT sensors, optimised scheduling, human computer interaction and cyber physical systems. In his 15 years in industry, Fergus has worked on a broad range of analytical projects across a wide range of sectors; his current focus is on enabling analytics solutions to be more easily deployed within industry.
Dr. Carlos Garcia
Carlos is an Industrial Engineer with professional experience of 15 years as a Project Director and Researcher, working for private research centres and companies across different industries, such as ICT, renewable energy, stock market and railways. He holds a PhD in multi-objective optimisation for complex industrial production problems. Carlos has managed diverse projects, both in FP7 European projects and in direct collaborations with many companies. From a technical perspective, he specialises on the development of advanced optimisation and control techniques applied to several fields; his deep knowledge of programming and modelling software completes a strong technical background. Since joining IMR in 2014 he leads the design, development and introduction in the market of Greybox Scheduling Optimisation.
David is senior energy researcher in IMR, he has over 10 years’ experience working as a mechanical/electrical engineer. David has worked across a number of industries including ICT, Pharma and Financial services with roles in maintenance, utilities, facilities and energy. David has a B.Sc. in Electrical Services & Energy Management, and a BSC in Manufacturing Engineering. David has experience in ISO 50001 and has successfully implemented and maintained certification in previous roles and has recently completed the certified measurement and verification protocol (CMVP) training. David is currently studying a MSC in Technology Management.
Ken is an Industrial Research Lead in IMR. In 2011, Ken received his PhD from the Electronic Engineering Dept. of Dublin City University. After this, Ken took the role of CTO in a Process Control Start-up serving the semiconductor industry, spinning out technology developed during his time in DCU. Ken has experience in Metrology, Process Control and System Design & Integration, in addition to leading mission critical projects and the associated teams
Alejandro is the Principal Investigator in Additive Manufacturing and Program Manager at IMR. Alejandro has wide manufacturing experience as a researcher in entities such as the University of Oviedo and Prodintec Technology Centre. He has a background of leading and managing large multi-disciplinary, multi-partner research projects, involving industrial companies, universities and research institutes. Alejandro’s research interests are focused on AM specific processes, materials and design, across a wide spectrum of industrial sectors with an interest in design and processing new disruptive applications. He is an active member of the European Technology Sub-platform in Additive manufacturing.
Jim’s mission at IMR is to build the most innovative and design-centric organisation. He is infusing and enabling a culture of meaningful customer-centric innovation and design to engage our customers and inspire the future. Over his 30+ year career, Jim has led all design and innovation aspects of a company including, product and service design, experience design, manufacturing process design, customer discovery, organisation design, business strategy and culture. He has designed, manufactured and launched physical and digital products, experiences, manufacturing processes, and organisations across multi-national corporations, small businesses and start-ups. He has Engineering and Maths degrees, and an IT in Education Masters from Trinity College Dublin.
Fearghal is the Systems Software Principal Investigator and Software Development Team lead in IMR. Fearghal has a BEng from Queens University and MSc from UCD plus 12 years’ experience working within the Semi-Conductor Sector in Advanced Automation and Software Development. Fearghal has extensive experience in mobile, web, database and middleware application development as both a developer and project manager. He has developed manufacturing applications in areas such as product delivery, process control, predictive maintenance and optimised scheduling systems
John is a Senior Technologist with over thirty years experience working in the technology sector. John has worked with both indigenous Irish startups and multinationals primarily as a developer/architect across the entire software stack. Prior to joining IMR, John worked with Intel in the areas of Automation, Digital Health research and Embedded Systems. John initially studied Applied Physics, has a Post Grad in Electronic Engineering and an MSc. in Security and Forensics. His current areas of interest are Cyber Security, IIOT and Machine Learning.
Louise joined Irish Manufacturing Research as Marketing Manager. Louise has over 18 years’ experience in sales and marketing roles in public and private sector organisations. Louise holds a BA in Business Management and a Master of Science in Digital Marketing & Analytics.
Louise leads the marketing function within IMR. In this role, she has been successful in leading a variety of projects including the organisation’s rebrand and website relaunch. Her role also gives her the opportunity to assist in managing territories and creating event and training materials.
Melanie joined IMR as our Office Manager in 2015. Prior to joining IMR, Melanie has worked in both SME and multinationals companies. She has gained broad experience across numerous business sectors. Melanie is responsible for IMR’s office, managing & leading the team including the HR & Administration functions. Melanie holds qualifications in Business Studies. Event Management and Public Relations and has a CIPD qualification in Human Resource Management. She is currently studying a BA Hons in HRM Strategy and Practice.
Gina joined IMR as our Financial Accountant. Gina was admitted as a member of The Institute of Certified Public Accountants in 2001. She has gained extensive audit and financial experience working between private practice and industry across numerous business sectors. Gina is responsible for the finance function of the company including financial analysis in such areas as forecasting, budgeting and engaging in cost reduction analysis.
Dr. Kilian Edwards
Mechanical Research Engineer
Kilian is a mechanical research engineer at IMR. Kilian holds a PhD in the development of control strategies for heating and cooling systems. He has experience using a range of engineering packages, including Python, MATLAB, 3D modelling and FEA software. He has skills in model development, simulation, data analysis and control of energy systems. He is currently participating in projects utilising IoT and data aggregation for visualisation, analysis and control in factories.
Daugirdas is electronics engineer with over 3 years of experience with a wide skill set and currently works as a researcher for IMR. Daugirdas main focus areas include data aggregation systems and IoT, which are tightly related to the projects he is involved at the moment. Previously he was working at Sonex Metrology as a design engineer and was part of the R&D team that was applying photoacoustic technique for non-destructive sub-surface defect detection. Daugirdas holds a First-Class Honours M.Eng. degree in Electronics Systems from Dublin City University.

Sean is a Senior Industrial Researcher working in the area of Additive Manufacturing. Since gaining his B.Sc. in Product design, he has worked with various multinationals in multiple capacities. His areas of expertise are that of Designing for Additive, Reverse Engineering, Advanced CAD Generation and Process Development. Sean is currently working on various projects that take traditionally manufactured goods and redesigning them to be produced additively.
Carlos is a Lead Software Engineer on the WKS Programme. He is an accomplished programmer and project manager with over 10 years experience in a range of industries, including developing software solutions for renewable energy management at ISOTROL and solutions for public sector at EVERIS. Carlos graduated with a degree in Software Engineering from University of Seville, Spain.

Dr Joanna Muras
Senior Software Developer
Joanna is Senior software developer at IMR. Joanna has over 6 years of experience as professional software developer specializing in Java. She was responsible for delivering software solutions, which included requirements gathering, design of the solution and its implementation. Joanna specialises mainly in web technologies. Joanna obtained PhD in Computer Science from Trinity College Dublin. Focus of her research was on data mining, analysis, and processing including machine learning algorithms. During her research she taught a number of courses in School of Computer Science and Statistics related to programming and communications.
Dr Ann O'Connell
Ann has spent 15 years in the manufacturing sector, she worked in a number of senior engineering roles in Intel as Process Integration, Materials and Chemical Analysis engineer. Ann holds a PhD in Chemistry and Chemical Biology from University College Dublin. On completion of her doctoral research and prior to joining IMR, Ann worked for Tyndall National Institute in an Industry facing role engaging with Industry in an advisory role to coordinate collaborative research projects and advise Industry on the possible funding options available to them for innovative materials research. As part of CCAN and Advanced Materials Ireland Ann sat on the NMPB High Level group in Brussels.
Dr. Giulia Paggetti

Giulia is a User Experience Researcher at IMR. She graduated with a PhD in Computer Science from University of Verona, in collaboration with Imperial College London, and with a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in General and Experimental Psychology from University of Florence.
Giulia has a background of managing and participating in multi-disciplinary and international research projects, both in corporate and university environments. She applied her research skills in different fields such as robotics, computer vision, content sharing and social gaming.
Dr. Anna Rotondo
Anna is an optimisation researcher at IMR. She has been a postdoctoral researcher in the School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at Dublin City University for a number of years and has been involved in national and international industry-focused research projects. She holds a MS degree in management engineering from Politecnico di Bari (Italy) and received her PhD in manufacturing engineering from Dublin City University, Ireland. Her research interests are in modeling, analysis and optimisation of complex manufacturing systems, with particular application to semiconductor manufacturing. Her research work focuses on improving the process of developing models to address specific tactical and strategic decisions in real manufacturing environments.
VR AR and Machine Vision Lead
Sam has spent 15 years producing bespoke software for the healthcare, financial and blue-chip sectors for start-ups through to large multinationals. After engagements with the NHS, Credit Suisse, Vodafone, and Dell, Sam joined Irish Manufacturing Research where he has been for the last 2 and a half years. As the VR AR and Machine Vision Lead, Sam works with the IMR member companies to evaluate, prototype or embed VR, AR and/or Machine Vision within their facilities on a project or consultancy basis. Sam and the VR AR team at IMR have hands-on experience with a huge range of HMDs, use-cases and development platforms, to ensure that they can evaluate and execute the virtualisation of real-world problems where most appropriate.
Research Engineer Robotics & Automation Team
Sabine Giron is a Research Engineer in the Robotics & Automation Team with IMR with over 3 years experience. Sabine has an MSc. Eng. double degree from Mines Douai Institute and Cranfield University, and has a wide range of skills in optimisation and automation of industrial processes in robotics. Sabine’s research is focused on collaborative robotics and flexible automation for manufacturing purposes and is the Local Evangelist of Robotics for Ireland as part of the DIH² Pan-European Network of Robotics DIHs for Agile Production.
Niranjan is a UI Developer with IMR. Niranjan is from India and has a Master’s degree in Computer Science from University College Dublin, Ireland. He has over 2 years’ experience in developing front end applications in multinational corporations. He is currently engaged in developing the UI for WKS application.
Aisling joined Irish Manufacturing Research as office administrator this year. She has over ten years’ experience working as an office and warehouse administrator in Large Multinational companies. Aisling is responsible for organising on-site meetings and administration for the office.
Carly recently joined the finance team, holding the position of Accounts Assistant. She has over 12 years experience in business operations, finance and administration gained in several SME’s and high profile Irish companies. Carly is a qualified Accounting Technician with ATI and has a degree in Accounting & Finance. Carly is currently studying her professional qualification with ACCA.
Industrial Researcher in Additive Manufacturing
Colin is an Industrial Researcher in Additive Manufacturing at IMR. He has a B.Eng in Mechanical Engineering and after graduating worked in the medical devices area. Colin has extensive experience in Concept Generation and Refinement, Prototyping, CAD and Design for Additive Manufacturing. He currently exploring the potential for adoption and integration of Additive Manufacturing technology into Irish industry.
Dr. Mousbah Barake
Senior Analytics Researcher
Mousbah is an algorithm designer and developer who has many years of Experience solving optimization problems using mathematical modelling, approximate algorithms, and graph theory. Mousbah has an M.Sc. in Computing and Applied mathematics and a PhD in Operations Research from the University of East Anglia. Mousbah has designed and developed algorithms for Kidney Matching at the Canadian Blood Services, designed heuristics for fibre optics topology layout and worked on classical problems such as the Graph Bisection and the Multi-Dimensional Knapsack problem.
Additive Research EngineerMark is a Research Engineer working with the Additive Manufacturing Team. He is looking at how companies in Ireland can integrate Additive Manufacturing into their existing and future product lines. Mark has recently received a B.Eng in Manufacturing and Design Engineering from DIT with his interests and experience lying in engineering design and optimisation.
Bonnie is a researcher in the collaborative robotics team at IMR. She has experience using a range of engineering packages, including MATLAB, 3D modelling and SCADA systems software. Bonnie has also been involved with FIRST Robotics for over 10 years. She holds an Honours B.Eng. degree in Mechatronics Engineering. Bonnie is currently studying a MEng by Research
Additive Manufacturing Applications Engineer
Tristan has spent 14 years developing novel manufacturing solutions for industry leaders both in Ireland and abroad. Tristan’s role in Irish Manufacturing Research is to de-risk and promote opportunities for Additive Manufacture across various sectors, and is focused on the manufacture of metal components. Tristan holds a first class honours degree in Mechanical Engineering and a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering. Tristan has set up and run manufacturing facilities for Additive and casting of Composites and Elastomers in NZ, China, Malaysia, Kazakhstan, and Ireland. Tristan’s interests include mathematics, physics, and the promotion of these subjects in primary and secondary education.
Additive Manufacturing Applications Researcher
Katie has a BSc. Product Design and Technology from the University of Limerick. Katie has worked with start-ups and industry in product development for the past 4 years, which has led her to work closely with SLA technologies for product development. Katie has skills in Creo 3.0, Solidworks, Keyshot 4.0, Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator and Sketchbook Designer and a number of AM slicing software.
Her interests are in developing products for AM and changing the way of thinking of when it comes to designing products that would have previously used traditional manufacturing techniques.
Energy Research EngineerTimmy is an energy research engineer with IMR and is currently working as an embedded research engineer with Boston Scientific Galway. Timmy has worked across a number of industries including Food, Agri, Med Tech and the public sector with roles in environment, utilities, facilities and energy. Timmy has a B.Sc. in Energy from the University of Limerick. Timmy is a Certified Energy Manager and is experienced in ISO 50001, ISO 140001, EED and IPMVP. Timmy is currently studying a MEng in Industrial Engineering.

Océane joined the Additive Manufacturing team as a Research Engineer and works on the integration of Additive Manufacturing in Irish industry. She holds a Master Sc. Eng. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Technology of Belfort-Montbéliard where she specialised in Material Engineering and Additive Manufacturing. She has previous experiences in AM Research where she experienced Metal and Polymer Additive Manufacturing and characterisations.
Additive Laboratory Technician
Donal is an Additive Laboratory Technician working with the Additive Manufacturing team. He has many years of experience working in high volume additive production as well as a broad prototyping background using other technologies. Donal is working with the additive team to develop the workflow for additive technologies for use in a HVM environment.
Alina has over 6 years industry experience, both web and print. She has worked in one of the leading Siberian digital agencies and the largest craft supplies online store in Russia. Her skills include creating responsive web design, banners, icons, social media graphics, video and photo retouch and print design. She took part in producing large web projects, including a website for one of the leading regional banks. Alina is currently working at Irish Manufacturing Research as a graphic designer.
María Isabel Meza Silva
Data Analytics Researcher
Isabel is a Data Analytics Researcher at IMR. Holding a first class honours degree in Industrial Engineering, her work in data analytics to date has come in the areas of scheduling, process improvement, lean manufacturing and most prominently in predictive analytics, modelling and data mining. Practically, Isabel has been involved in various projects focusing on the application of operations research and optimization techniques. These projects have seen Isabel explore the areas of logistics, supply chain management and, production planning and control.
Andrew is an electronics engineer working in a research role with the Industrial Internet of Things team, currently focusing on embedded systems and data aggregation. Previously he worked as an automation systems integration engineer in the pharmaceutical industry and as a network technician with the ESB. Andrew holds a distinction in BEng in Control and Automation Systems and a First-Class Honours degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Dublin Institute of Technology.
Quality Engineer Researcher
Martina is a quality engineer researcher at IMR, with previous cleanroom experience, and currently works with ISO 14644, ISO 21501-4 and ISO 9001. She spent the first 2 years of her Honours Bachelor’s Degree studying Food and Pharmaceutical Technology and focused the 2 final years of the degree on Pharmaceutical Technology, in DIT Dublin. She then obtained her masters in ITT Dublin, in Pharmaceutical Manufacturing and Process Technology. She is currently working on getting her Green Belt in Lean Six Sigma.
Romain Couture is a sustainability researcher specialising on the circular economy for manufacturers. He has an Honours degree in Marketing and an MSc in Environmental Management for Business from Cranfield University. He previously worked at Teagasc as a Recovery of Value researcher for meat side streams and by-products. Romain is committed to help Irish manufacturers to be more sustainable in their resource consumption from the design phase to the reuse, remanufacture or recycling of the product.
